When can craniosacral therapy help you?

● When your body feels tense or stressed, even when you are trying to relax. Some common examples are struggling to relax your jaw, constant neck tightness, feeling like your shoulders are stuck up towards your ears, heaviness in your chest
● When you are looking for ways to manage the overall stress and tension of life
● Nervous system regulation: CST can assist with down regulation for people with PTSD, CPTSD, anxiety, insomnia
● CST can help when you're managing a chronic pain condition
● Migraines/headaches pain management
● Management of post concussion/TBI symptoms
● If someone has suggested you try meditation, but you're struggle to meditate on your own. The collaborative meditation of CST can help you get started on your journey

What is craniosacral therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (craniosacral or CST) is a practice performed primarily through gentle, long stationary holds of your body. For someone receiving craniosacral for the first time, I believe it is best described as collaborative, intentional meditation on your body, and your wellbeing.

Whenever fluid is blocked or inhibited in your body, it can cause pain, stress, and dis-ease to your system. CST is a quiet practice that encourages your body to find its own way back to the healthy movement of the connective tissues, nerves, muscles, bones, and fluids of your body including blood, lymph, synovial fluid, and specifically cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), around your brain, spinal cord and entire nervous system.

What is CSF? CSF or cerebrospinal fluid bathes, protects, regulates, and nourishes the brain and spinal cord - the core of your nervous system.

What can block CSF? Blocks to your CSF can be caused by physical trauma (impact accidents and injuries), emotional trauma and stress, as well as certain illnesses, and genetic conditions.

More about craniosacral therapy and your body

Connective tissue or fascia? Every nerve, every organ, every bone, every muscle, even every fiber of every muscle is surrounded by connective tissue we call fascia. Fascia brings us together, and keeps us together. This connective tissue can get stuck together due to the scar tissue of a trauma, reduced movement, and the changes of age. When it gets stuck, it can cause pain, inhibit the way your body moves, and the way blood, lymph, and CSF are able to move in your body.

What is lymph fluid? Lymph fluid lives within the lymph system and contains excess water and cellular waste including proteins, lipids, damaged cells, foreign particles (such as bacteria or viruses), etc. Your lymphatic system collects this fluid from your tissue, and moves it back through your system, disposes of what is harmful or no longer beneficial, and helps filter, redistribute, and recycle the rest back into your blood stream.

What is synovial fluid? Synovial fluid is found surrounding many of the joints of your body (synovial joints specifically). The synovial fluid reduces friction and provides a cushion between bones that make up a joint. Some joints with synovial fluid are your knees, hips, wrists, elbows, shoulder, joints of the fingers, toes and parts of your spine.
